This change expedites and enhances transparency by enabling end-to-end digital filing of rectification requests, reducing the reliance on physical submissions. This new feature will significantly benefit taxpayers by providing a simple and technology-based system for rectification.
The Income Tax Department has launched a new feature that allows taxpayers to file rectification applications for specific income tax orders directly online with the relevant authority. Prior to this feature, taxpayers had to apply for rectification manually or send it through the Assessing Officer (AO). This was a time-consuming and cumbersome process.
This update means that taxpayers can now directly apply digitally for correction of orders containing errors (such as calculation errors, incorrect interest calculations, discrepancies in figures, or other clerical mistakes). These include:
- Transfer Pricing (TP) Orders
- Dispute Resolution Panel (DRP) Guidelines
- Revision Orders (such as orders passed under Sections 263 or 264)
This change expedites and enhances transparency by enabling end-to-end digital filing of rectification requests, reducing the reliance on physical submissions. This new feature will significantly benefit taxpayers by providing a simple and technology-based system for rectification.
How to File a Rectification Application Online
You can file an application online using these steps:
Step 1: Visit the taxpayer e-filing portal (https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/login).
Step 2: Log in using your user ID and password.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Services Tab’.
Step 4: Select ‘Rectification’ here.
Step 5: Now, you can submit your application directly to the concerned officer through ‘Request to AO seeking rectification’.
Benefits of the New Feature
- Submitting applications directly to the relevant officer will reduce administrative delays.
- Digital tracking of applications will be possible, reducing the need for follow-up.
- The process will be simple, transparent, and time-efficient for taxpayers.
- The correction process for TP, DRP, and revision orders will be faster and easier.
