India Post has launched the Advanced Postal Technology (APT) system at the national level. This has increased the speed of transactions from real-time tracking. This information was given by the Ministry of Communications on Wednesday. APT has been launched as part of India Post’s digital transformation being done under IT 2.0.

The ministry said that the APT system has seen improvements in transaction speed, digital payment integration, real-time tracking and customer experience. It further said that this transition from the old to the new system is a major step towards providing faster, smarter and more customer-centric postal services.

The government said that due to the vast network of more than 1.64 lakh post offices in urban, rural and remote areas, some slowdown was felt on the first day of the rollout of this APT system on August 4, but the technical team resolved it and it was rectified the next day.

According to the ministry, on August 5, more than 20 lakh items were booked and more than 25 lakh items were delivered through this new application across India. The Indian Postal Department said, “Indian Post is fully committed to ensuring seamless public service. The department is closely monitoring the performance and taking all necessary measures to ensure smooth and efficient transition.”

Earlier, it was announced that the Department of Posts will launch its next-generation APT application across Delhi, taking a major step towards digital transformation and better customer service. At the same time, the ministry had said last week, “On August 4, 353 post offices and 61 branch post offices across the capital will launch this updated digital platform.”

For this, the department had planned to keep the service closed on Saturday, August 2, to ensure a safe and seamless transition. The post office system was undergoing necessary data migration, verification and configuration processes, so no public transactions took place at the 414 affected locations on that day.
