Documents for entry permit in Nepal
For Indian citizens, these documents will have to be kept according to age:
- For people above 65 years or below 15 years: Any photo identity card will be accepted, such as PAN card, driving license or ration card.
- For youth between 15 and 18 years: Identity certificate issued by their school or college will be valid.
- For all others: Passport valid for at least 6 months or original voter ID card is a must.
- If needed: Emergency certificate can also be taken from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
Aadhar card is not taken
According to the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, Voter ID card downloaded or printed online, which contains your details, will not be considered valid for traveling to Nepal, other documents like (Aadhar card, PAN card, driving license, registration slip of Indian Embassy) are also not accepted as travel documents to go to Nepal. Yes, people above 65 years of age or below 15 years of age are not covered under this rule but they have to show an important document.
Permit for flight and road
Indian citizens do not need to take a separate entry permit to go to Nepal. If you reach Nepal by flight, such as at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, then you just have to show your valid identity card (passport or voter ID) at the immigration there. If you go to Nepal by road, then you can easily get entry at the border by just showing passport or voter ID card. There is no need to take any separate permit.
If you are going by your own vehicle, then you will have to take an entry permit
If you are going to Nepal with your vehicle, then you will have to take a temporary permit called ‘Bhansaar’. For this you have to pay a small custom fee.
Bhansaar permit cost:
For bike: Rs 93 (150 Nepalese rupees) per day
For car: Rs 312 (500 Nepalese rupees) per day
With this permit, you can stay in Nepal with your vehicle for 30 days. If you go with a ‘day pass’, then it is necessary to return to India on the same day.

- Original insurance paper (with stamp)
