According to the Ministry of External Affairs, following negotiations, it has been decided that direct flights on air routes between India and China will commence by the end of October 2025. This agreement will facilitate people-to-people contact between the two countries and gradually normalize bilateral relations.
IndiGo New Flight: India and China have agreed to resume direct air flights after a long delay. This move follows five years of strained relations following the Galwan conflict. The Ministry of External Affairs made the official announcement on Thursday. Following this, airline IndiGo also announced that it would resume direct flights between India and China from October 26.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “Since the beginning of this year, in line with the government’s vision of gradually normalizing relations between India and China, the civil aviation authorities of both countries have held technical-level discussions to resume direct air services and amend the Air Services Agreement.”
Direct flights were suspended following the Doklam standoff and were further delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Flights to commence by the end of October
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, following negotiations, it has now been decided that direct flights between India and China will commence by the end of October 2025. These flights will be subject to commercial approval by airlines from both countries and compliance with all operating regulations.
This agreement will facilitate people-to-people contact between the two countries and gradually normalize bilateral relations.

IndiGo to resume flights from October 26
IndiGo stated that following recent diplomatic initiatives, the airline has announced the resumption of its services to Mainland China, operating daily, non-stop flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou (CAN) from October 26, 2025.
The airline also stated that it will soon commence direct flights between Delhi and Guangzhou. These flights will be operated using Airbus A320neo aircraft. This will re-establish new opportunities for trade, strategic partnerships, and tourism between the two countries.
The decision was made after the visit of the Chinese Foreign Minister
The first announcement to resume direct flights was made last month following Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to New Delhi. Relations between the two countries have been improving since last year. The disengagement of troops at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Depsang and Demchok by the end of 2024 and the implementation of trust measures have stabilized relations.
This includes high-level diplomatic and military dialogue, Track-2 negotiations, and the easing of some trade restrictions. The resumption of direct flights is a major step toward normalizing exchanges between India and China. It will help facilitate trade, travel, and people-to-people contact.
