IndiGo, which faced a severe operational crisis in early December , will start compensating passengers from December 26. The country’s largest airline company IndiGo had cancelled more than 5000 flights between December 2 and 10, besides countless flights were delayed. Lakhs of passengers had to face a lot of problems due to flight cancellations and delays. After the recent directive issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry, IndiGo passengers will now start getting compensation. According to an estimate, IndiGo may have to pay a total compensation of Rs 376 crore to around 3.8 lakh affected passengers.

The company will give a travel voucher of Rs 10,000 to passengers stranded at the airport.

Sources briefed TOI on the matter. The government on Friday directed IndiGo to immediately initiate compensation for passengers affected on December 3, 4, and 5. IndiGo will issue travel vouchers worth ₹10,000 to each severely affected customer who was stranded at the airport for several hours between December 3 and 5. Additionally, IndiGo will be required to provide compensation ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 to affected passengers, as per government regulations.

Passengers who booked tickets through IndiGo’s website may soon get compensation.

An official told TOI that passengers who booked tickets through IndiGo’s website should begin receiving compensation within a week, as the airline already has data on such passengers. Furthermore, the company has been instructed to contact travel agents and online travel agencies (OTAs) to collect information on all passengers who booked tickets through them and to provide compensation to them. This work should also begin soon.

The Civil Aviation Ministry will monitor the entire process.

The government has directed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure that every affected IndiGo passenger receives appropriate compensation. Furthermore, the Ministry of Civil Aviation will monitor the entire process through its AirSewa portal.
