IndiGo to offer full refunds for flights cancelled between December 5 and 15, leaving thousands of passengers stranded from Delhi to Mumbai

Air travel across the country has been severely disrupted for the past few days. Meanwhile, IndiGo announced that passengers whose flights were canceled between December 5th and 15th will receive a full refund.

IndiGo refund policy: The IndiGo flight crisis, which has been ongoing across the country for several days, reached its peak on Friday. Amid widespread chaos, canceled flights, and stranded passengers, the airline made a significant announcement, stating that passengers will automatically receive full refunds for all flights canceled between December 5th and 15th, without the need for an official request.

IndiGo also stated that no charges will be levied for ticket cancellations or rescheduling during this period. The airline has arranged thousands of hotel rooms and transportation across the country to alleviate passenger inconvenience. Meals and snacks are also being provided at airports, and senior citizens are being given lounge access where possible.

On Friday alone, more than 750 flights were affected—the highest number this week. Passengers were stranded for hours in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The situation was particularly dire in Delhi, where all 235 IndiGo flights were canceled.

IndiGo cited the reasons for the crisis as a sudden pilot shortage, a winter schedule, technical glitches, and congestion in the aviation system. The airline also stated that existing FDTL (Flight Duty Time Limitation) regulations led to a shortage of pilots, further disrupting operations at peak times.

IndiGo’s on-time performance has steadily declined—from 35% to 19.7%, and then to just 8.5%. This is a serious blow to an airline that has long considered punctuality its hallmark.

The airline has already informed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) that there will be further flight cancellations until December 8th, and reduced services thereafter.

Overall, IndiGo’s operational crisis is not completely over yet, but the airline has assured to restore normalcy within 48 hours.
