IRCTC: Train travelers in India may now face difficulties. The Indian Railways has implemented a new rule regarding general reservation ticket bookings, effective October 1st. Under this rule, passengers will only be able to book general reservation tickets if their IRCTC account is linked to Aadhaar. This will then be verified through Aadhaar OTP authentication. This rule has been implemented to prevent fraudulent bookings and ticket black marketing.

According to the Railway Ministry, Aadhaar verification will be required for booking tickets within the first 15 minutes of the opening of general reservations on the IRCTC website or app. This will curb fake IDs, ticket black marketing by agents, and booking by bots. Passengers will also be able to easily obtain tickets and reduce waiting lists. However, if your IRCTC account is not linked to Aadhaar, you may encounter difficulties booking tickets. Therefore, link your IRCTC account to Aadhaar by following these steps now…

How to link your IRCTC account to Aadhaar?

If you want to book a general reservation ticket, you’ll first need to link your IRCTC account with Aadhaar. Follow the steps below…

First, log in to the IRCTC website.

Next, go to the My Account section and click on Authenticate User.

Enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID and click on Verify Details.

Then enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number and submit.

Once this process is complete, your IRCTC account will be linked with Aadhaar, and you’ll be able to easily book general reservation tickets.

Changes in counter bookings

Now, you will need to provide your Aadhaar number not only online but also when booking tickets at the PRS counter at the railway station. Verification at the counter will also be done through an OTP. This means that it is crucial that your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar.
