In a letter to the Finance Ministry, the Advocates Tax Bar Association (ATBA) has said that in view of the flood situation in many states across the country, the government should extend the deadline for filing ITR for the financial year 2022-23. The association has requested the government to pay attention to this demand for the convenience of taxpayers in view of the flood situation in the country.

The government should take a decision considering the flood situation

Lawyers’ Tax Association ATBA has written a letter to the Finance Minister. In this letter, the institution has demanded to extend the last date for filing income tax returns in view of the flood situation in different states of the country including the capital Delhi. In its letter, the association has written that as you know that due to heavy rains, there has been loss of life and property in many parts of the country. In many places, many offices including the Income Tax office are closed. In such a situation, taxpayers are facing difficulty in filing ITR till the last date. The deadline for filing GST and ITR is also matching. For this reason, in view of the flood situation, the government should extend the deadline for filing ITR by one month. Significantly, the situation is very bad due to floods in many states of North India including Delhi, such as Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

This organization also demanded to increase the deadline

Apart from the Advocates Tax Bar Association, the Sales Tax Bar Association, the oldest and largest organization of tax professionals in the country, has also recently written a letter to the Finance Minister demanding extension of the ITR file deadline. The association has also made this demand to the government in view of the flood situation. The association has also asked the Finance Minister to extend the last date for filing income tax returns by one month till August 31, 2023. A copy of this demand has also been handed over to a CBDT chairman.

More than 3 crore taxpayers filed ITR

The Income Tax Department has informed on July 19 that till now more than 3 crore taxpayers have filed ITR. Along with this, the department told that this is a big achievement because compared to last year, this year this figure has been achieved 7 days earlier. In this, 2.81 ITRs have been e-verified and 1.50 crore ITRs have been processed. The Income Tax Department has asked people to file returns soon.
