ITR Rectification Request: Every year everyone waits for a refund after filing Income Tax Return (ITR). But when the refund amount is less than what you expect, it is natural to feel upset. If this has happened to you too, then there is no need to take tension! Through rectification request, you can correct your mistakes and get the full refund of your right. Let us know what is rectification request and how to do it.

Why did the refund come less?

Many times small mistakes affect the refund amount. This includes incorrect bank details, incorrect matching of TDS, error in income or deduction, or mismatch of data with Form 26AS. Due to these mistakes, the Income Tax Department issues less refund or holds it. But rectification request is an easy way to fix all this.

How to get full refund?

If you feel that you have not received the full refund, then you can submit a rectification request online. This process is very easy and can be completed from your mobile or computer sitting at home. Just follow the steps given below.

  • First of all go to https://eportal.incometax.gov.in and login with your login ID-password.
  • After login, select the option of ‘Rectification’ in the ‘E-file’ menu.
  • Now select the assessment year and the order in which there is a mistake and click on ‘Continue’.
  • You have to choose the request type and fill the reason due to which the refund has come less (such as wrong TDS, forgotten deduction, etc.). Upload its supporting documents.
  • Fill all the information and ‘Submit’. You will have a reference number generated. Now your application will reach the Centralized Processing Center Bangalore.

Within a few days, the Income Tax Department will work on your request and if found correct, will send the entire refund to your account.

Keep these things in mind

The rectification request has to be filed within 120 days of the return being processed. If you have trouble understanding the ITR process, seek the help of a chartered accountant. Double-check the details while filing the request so that the mistake does not happen again. Keep checking the status on the income tax portal, as the department sometimes gives updates through email or SMS.
