Jan Dhan account holders be careful!

But Jan Dhan account holders need to be careful in one case. Although banks do not charge any charges from account holders due to zero balance, a separate fee is charged if the transaction exceeds a fixed limit. This is revealed by a report by IIT Bombay. In which it is being claimed that Banks are charging fines from Basic Savings Bank Deposit Accounts (BSBD) account holders.

How much fine

Let us tell you that Basic Savings Bank Deposit Accounts (BSBD) are opened under Jan Dhan Yojana. Banks give you four times the free transaction facility in these accounts. After this, on any transaction, you are fined up to 20 rupees per transaction. In this, banks also include UPI or any other digital transaction.

RBI rules on Jan Dhan accounts

According to the Reserve Bank of India, banks should not take such charge. But banks are making their own arbitrary collections. This fact has been revealed in the report of a professor of IIT Bombay. Therefore, if you are also a Jan Dhan account holder, then keep this in mind and do the transaction only after thinking carefully.

Banks are getting fined up to 20 rupees

The IIT Bombay report states that the country’s largest bank SBI is charging Rs 17.70 per transaction. State Bank has recovered about Rs 300 crore from about 12 crore Jan Dhan account holders during the 5 years from FY 2014-15 to 2019-20. Similarly, Punjab National Bank, India’s second largest government bank, has recovered Rs 9.9 crore from 3.9 crore Jan Dhan account holders during the same period.

42 crores Jan Dhan accounts

At present, the number of Jan Dhan accounts has been more than 42 crores. Of these, 33.23 crore in public sector banks, 7.52 crore in regional rural banks and 1.25 crore in private banks have been opened. The number of women in total Jan Dhan account holders is 23.27 crores.

Overdraft facility of Rs 10,000

If you have a Jan Dhan account, you can withdraw 10 thousand rupees at the time of need, even if the balance in your account is zero, it is called an overdraft, consider it as such that it is a short-term loan. In the earlier Jan Dhan Yojana, the limit of overdraft was Rs 5000, which has now been Rs 10,000. The government also offers a RuPay debit card to Jan Dhan account holders.
