Jan Dhan account: In May, 11 lakh people opened Jan Dhan account, there was an increase in the deposit amount

Jan Dhan: Out of the total Jan Dhan account holders of 42.42 crores, 65.93 per cent i.e. 27.97 crores are from rural or semi-urban areas.




PM Jan Dhan Account: Even during the Kovid crisis, an increase in Jan Dhan account holders has been registered in the month of May. Also, there has been an increase of Rs 2,432 crore in total deposits in Jan Dhan accounts.

There was a withdrawal of Rs 2,253 crore in the month of April.

While the number of Jan Dhan account holders was 4,231 lakh in April, it has increased to 4,242 lakh at the end of May, that is, 11 lakh people joined Jan Dhan accounts in May. Or rather, about 35,500 people are associated with this scheme of the government every day.

In April also, about 11 lakh people were associated with this campaign of the central government connecting them with banking facilities.

Of the total account holders, 2,350 lakh are women – that is, 55.39 percent of the account holders are women.

Out of 42.42 crore beneficiary, 33.56 crore (79.11 per cent) have opened this account in public sector banks. The remaining 7.60 crore (17.91%) people have opted for Regional Rural Banks and 1.25 crore, which is 2.49 per cent of the total account holders, have opened accounts in private banks.

In the second wave of the corona epidemic, banks open for a short time. The increase in the number of account holders has been due to the deployment of business correspondents in rural areas.

How much amount in accounts?
With the increase in total deposits, there has also been a jump in average savings in Jan Dhan accounts. Against the average of Rs 3,386 at the end of April, there has been an average balance of 3,435 in May. However, this is still less than the average balance of March 2021 at Rs 3,449.

According to the data of Jan Dhan accounts till 31 March 2021, Lakshadweep has the highest average deposits. Here, the average deposit with each account holder is Rs 18,684, which is 5.4 times higher than the national average of Rs 3,449.

By the end of FY 2021, Manipur saw the lowest average balance. Here, the average deposit is Rs 2,037.

Debit Card
There has been an increase in new account holders, but there has been a decrease in those who have been issued debit cards.

Debit cards were issued to 31 crore people till the end of May. That is, out of the total account holders, only 73.07 percent have a debit card.

Whereas, this coverage was up to 73.17 percent account holders in April and 73.22 percent in March. Through debit card, customers can avail ATM and online facilities.

By the end of FY 2021, 90 percent of account holders in Ladakh had a debit card, but in Mizoram and Manipur, only 35.14 percent had a debit card.

Of the total Jan Dhan account holders of 42.42 crores, 65.93 per cent i.e. 27.97 crores are from rural or semi-urban areas.

There are 14.44 crore account holders in cities and metro areas.
