Banks will be closed for a total of 16 days in January. The RBI has announced these 16 holidays for different cities and for different reasons. Before this, let us inform you that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) already releases a list of bank holidays, which details which days banks will be closed in which cities. Therefore, be sure to check the RBI bank holiday list before visiting the bank.
January Bank Holiday List
Banks will be closed for four days in January due to Sundays, and two days due to the second and fourth Saturdays. Furthermore, banks will be closed for various reasons in different cities and states during the remaining 10 holidays.
January 1st Bank Holiday – Banks will be closed on January 1st in Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, and Shillong. Banks will be closed on this day for New Year’s Day and Gaan-Ngai.
January 2nd Bank Holiday – Banks will be closed on January 2nd in Aizawl, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram for New Year’s Day.
January 3rd Bank Holiday – Banks will be closed only in Lucknow city on January 3rd. Banks in Lucknow will be closed for Hazrat Ali’s birthday.
January 12th Bank Holiday – Banks will be closed in Kolkata on January 12th for Swami Vivekananda’s birthday.
January 14th Bank Holiday – Banks will be closed on January 14th in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, and Itanagar for Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu.
January 15 Bank Holiday – Banks will remain closed on January 15 in Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangtok, Hyderabad and Vijayawada on account of Uttarayan Punyakaal/Pongal/Maghe Sankranti/Makar Sankranti.
January 16 Bank Holiday – Banks will be closed in Chennai on January 16 due to Thiruvalluvar Day.
January 17 Bank Holiday – Banks will be closed in Chennai on January 17 due to Uzhavar Thirunal.
January 23 Bank Holiday – Banks will be closed in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata on January 23 due to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birthday/Saraswati Puja/Veer Surendrasai Jayanti/Basant Panchami.
January 26 Bank Holiday – Banks will be closed across the country on January 26 due to Republic Day.
