Karnataka launches Period Leave Policy 2025, granting working women a monthly rest day

The Karnataka government has decided to give one paid leave every month to 60 lakh working women of the state by implementing the ‘Period Leave Policy 2025’.

Period Leave Policy 2025: Starting today, life has become a little easier for women in Karnataka. The government has issued an official notice implementing the “Period Leave Policy 2025” across the state. This clearly means that government offices, private companies, and the industrial sector will now provide women with one day of paid period leave each month. This means a total of 12 holidays per year, all without salary deductions.

This policy was passed in the cabinet last month and has now been implemented. This decision directly brings relief to women who felt compelled to go to work every month despite pain, fatigue, and discomfort. The notice clearly states that every working woman between the ages of 18 and 52 will be eligible to benefit from this scheme.

Direct benefits to 6 million women

According to data from the Karnataka Labor Department, approximately 6 million women work in various sectors in the state. Of these, approximately 2.5 to 3 million are part of the corporate sector. The government will soon convene a large meeting of all employers to discuss how to implement this policy and what rules must be followed. The government’s focus is to ensure that no organization ignores this order and that women receive their full rights. This step has been taken keeping in mind women’s health, comfort, and productivity.

The committee stated that rest is essential for the body during menstruation, which led to the new policy. Before implementing this policy, the government formed an 18-member committee. This committee explained in detail the changes that occur in women’s bodies during menstruation and why rest is essential during this time.

The report stated that during menstruation, women experience problems such as stomach pain, fatigue, mood swings, heaviness, and sometimes severe weakness. This committee was led by Sapna S., Head of the Law Department at Christ University. Following the report, the government also sought input from various departments and companies, particularly those in women-dominated sectors like the textile industry, to assess how the policy would impact them.

Period Leave Available Here

Karnataka has now joined the select group of states that offer women leave during their periods. In Bihar, women receive two periods of leave each month. Odisha recently announced a holiday for women government employees. Now, Karnataka, recognizing the needs of women, has also taken this important step.
