Ladki Bahin Yojana: The Maharashtra government’s Ladki Bahin Yojana is always in the headlines. This scheme proved to be a game changer for the ruling party. Meanwhile, the state government was preparing to release advance installments for December and January in January. The State Election Commission had put a stay on this advance installment. State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has issued a statement on this matter. Speaking to reporters in Pune, Maharashtra, Fadnavis said that his government, following the State Election Commission’s (SEC) directive, will not release the January advance installment under the “Ladki Bahin Yojana” to eligible women.

Speaking to reporters in Pune, CM Devendra Fadnavis explained that until now, advance installments under the “Ladki Bahin Yojana” were given to poor women during major festivals. However, the monthly allowance (₹1,500) under this scheme will now be deposited into their accounts after January 16th. Let us tell you that the counting of votes for the elections of 29 municipal corporations of the state will take place on January 16.

The Election Commission had banned advance payments.

The Election Commission has directed that while the old and regular benefits of the scheme will continue, under no circumstances will advance payments be made during the code of conduct. The Election Commission has received numerous complaints regarding this matter. Municipal elections are scheduled to be held in the state on January 15th. Previously, the government was preparing to make advance payments for the months of December and January into the accounts of women under the Ladki Behen Yojana on January 14th. However, the Election Commission has now banned this.

Ban on selection of new beneficiaries

According to reports, following the Chief Secretary’s report, the Election Commission clarified that under the Code of Conduct, only those works that were in effect before the election announcement can continue. According to the Commission’s order, the government cannot distribute advance payments or select new beneficiaries for the scheme during this period. This decision has thwarted the government’s plan to attract women as a vote bank during Sankranti.
