Amazon Layoff: Amazon is back in the mood for layoffs. Reports claim that the company may lay off approximately 16,000 people. This is part of a restructuring drive the company initiated a few months ago, which plans to cut 30,000 employees.

In the initial phase, approximately 14,000 people were laid off, but now there are reports that the next wave of layoffs could begin next Tuesday. This upcoming round of layoffs at Amazon could affect approximately 16,000 more employees.

India will also be impacted

If the layoffs do indeed occur, they would be the largest in the company’s history, surpassing the 27,000 employees Amazon itself cut in 2023. Furthermore, while previous layoffs were mostly US-based, this time they are expected to impact many teams operating in India as well. It is reported that the layoffs will occur in several major divisions, such as Prime Video and AWS.

Second Round Starting Tuesday!

According to a Reuters report citing people familiar with the matter, Amazon is planning to launch its second major round of corporate job cuts on Tuesday, January 27th. The company already eliminated approximately 14,000 white-collar positions in October last year, and this next wave is expected to be of a similar scale.

Although Amazon hasn’t officially confirmed the exact date, discussions on social media platforms like Reddit, LinkedIn posts, and Blind suggest that layoff notifications could begin arriving as early as the beginning of the week. Some employees have also claimed that those already on Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) may be notified before others.

Danger Alarms for These

It’s being reported that teams within Amazon Web Services (AWS), Retail Operations, Prime Video, and the People Experience and Technology (PXT) division, Amazon’s internal HR wing, may be affected. Overall, the layoffs will mostly focus on higher-paying corporate jobs rather than warehouse or delivery staff.
