Meta Layoffs: Discussions of large-scale layoffs have once again intensified at Meta Platforms, a renowned tech company. According to media reports, the company may reduce approximately 20 percent of its total workforce, potentially impacting the jobs of approximately 16,000 employees.

It is being reported that this step may be taken to offset the increasing expenditure on artificial intelligence (AI)-related technology and infrastructure. Furthermore, the company aims to develop a team that can work more effectively and quickly with the help of AI. However, no official date has been set for these potential layoffs.

Potential layoffs threaten thousands of employees

According to corporate filings, the company employed approximately 79,000 people as of December 31, 2025. If the company were to reduce its workforce by approximately 20%, the jobs of approximately 16,000 employees could be at risk.

If this plan is implemented, it would be the company’s largest layoff since a major restructuring during 2022–23. This move is currently being considered tentative, and a final decision is pending.

The company has previously laid off a significant number of employees. In November 2022, it laid off approximately 11,000 employees, representing approximately 13% of its total workforce. Now, the possibility of large-scale layoffs is once again being discussed.

Company betting on AI

Meta has been trying to advance in the field of AI for the past year. To this end, the company has added several top AI researchers to its SuperIntelligence team. According to reports, they have been offered substantial packages.

This suggests the company’s future direction, with its focus on AI. Furthermore, the company is planning to spend approximately $600 billion on data center construction by 2028.
