Metro connectivity in Gurugram will be strengthened; the corridor will pass through Rajiv Chowk.

To enhance metro connectivity in Cyber City, the government has planned a new corridor from Gurugram Railway Station to Bhondsi. This corridor will pass through Sadar Bazar and Rajiv Chowk, which will help reduce traffic congestion. An interchange facility will allow passengers to easily switch between routes. A 28.5 km long corridor will also be built in Old Gurugram, further boosting development in the area.

Gurugram. The Haryana state government has finalized its plan to enhance metro connectivity in Gurugram, a city that has established itself as a global hub for IT, telecom, automobiles, garments, and the medical sector.

Within the next few years, metro connectivity will be extended to most areas of the city and its surrounding regions. As part of this plan, a feasibility report will soon be prepared for a new metro corridor from Gurugram Railway Station to Bhondsi village.

This corridor will pass through busy areas such as Sadar Bazar, Jail Road, and Rajiv Chowk. It will be developed along the service lane of the Gurugram-Sohna Highway, starting from Rajiv Chowk. The feasibility report will determine whether the corridor should be built as an elevated structure or underground along the service lane.

The new corridor will feature interchange facilities at several metro stations in the city. These interchanges will allow passengers to transfer to other routes without having to exit the station, thus reducing traffic congestion on the roads.

According to estimates, the district’s population has now exceeded 5 million. This is why traffic congestion is a constant problem in the cyber city and its surrounding areas. Several highways have been built, and roads and service lanes have been widened.

Despite these improvements, traffic congestion persists. Keeping this in mind, the state government has decided to enhance metro connectivity in most areas. Manohar Lal Khattar, the former Chief Minister of the state and now the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, is well aware of the traffic problems in Gurugram.

He has stated that his ministry is ready to approve as many metro corridors as needed. The faster the state government prepares the plans, the quicker his ministry will give its approval. Accordingly, the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has started preparing feasibility reports for various routes.

In this direction, a feasibility report has been prepared for a corridor from Sector 56 to Pachgaon Chowk. Now, a feasibility report will be prepared for a corridor from Gurugram Railway Station to Bhondsi village.

This corridor will completely transform the landscape of the cyber city. While traffic congestion is a problem in most areas of Gurugram, it is particularly severe around Gurugram Railway Station, Old Railway Road, New Railway Road, near Sadar Bazar, Jail Road, Rajiv Chowk, and along the service lanes of the Gurugram-Sohna Highway from Rajiv Chowk to Badshapur.

With the development of numerous residential societies and malls along both sides of the road from Badshapur to Bhondsi, traffic congestion has increased. Keeping this in mind, this corridor will be developed as soon as possible.

Several corridors will be connected through interchanges.

To connect the new corridors, interchange facilities will be available at several stations in Cyber City. Currently, interchange facilities are available at Millennium City Centre Gurugram, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector-10, Gurugram Railway Station, Palam Vihar, and Cyber City Metro Station. An interchange facility will also be provided at Sector-56 Rapid Metro Station. The interchange facility at Sector-56 Rapid Metro Station will connect the corridor from Sector-56 to Pachgaon Chowk.

The interchange at Palam Vihar will connect the corridor from Palam Vihar to Dwarka in Delhi. The interchange at Sector-10 station will connect the corridor to the Global City project. The interchange at Gurugram Railway Station will connect the corridor to the village of Bhondsi. The interchange facilities at Hero Honda Chowk and Pachgaon Chowk will connect the corridor to the Regional Rapid Transit System.

The Regional Rapid Transit System corridor is to be developed from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Alwar in Rajasthan. It will be developed along the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The interchange facilities in Cyber City will connect the corridor passing through old Gurugram with the Rapid Metro corridor.

In this way, metro connectivity to several areas up to Alwar will improve. Improved connectivity will reduce population pressure in the NCR. Currently, people who work in Delhi or Gurugram are forced to live nearby because public transport is not good enough.

A 28.5 km long corridor will be built for connectivity in old Gurugram.

A 28.5 km long corridor will be built to provide metro connectivity in old Gurugram. Work on the first package has already started. The tendering process for the second package is expected to start soon. The project aims to be completed by December 2028. There will be eight model stations. A total of 35 trains will operate on the new corridor. Each train will have three coaches. The maximum speed of the trains will be 80 kilometers per hour.

The project will cost approximately ₹5,452.72 crore. The first station on the new corridor will be Sector 45, located beyond the Millennium City Centre Gurugram Metro station.

Following this, stations will be located at Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 72A, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase VI, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai Village, Sector 9, Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase IV, Udyog Vihar Phase V, and near Cyber Hub. In the first phase, the metro will be extended to Sector 9, covering approximately 15.5 kilometers.

Improved connectivity will lead to rapid development

Dinesh Nagpal, patron of the Gurugram Home Developers Association, says that despite several problems, Gurugram remains a preferred destination for people not only in India but across the world. He believes that once these problems are resolved, its appeal will grow even further. Rapid development in any area occurs when public transport is efficient.

With improved metro connectivity, development will boom from Gurugram to Alwar. People will prefer to live in Alwar. Currently, people working in Gurugram prefer to live nearby because of heavy traffic on the roads. Even for short distances, people have to think twice before venturing out.

Dr. Chandrashekhar Khare, Managing Director of Gurugram Metro Rail Limited, says that the process of preparing a feasibility report for the corridor from Gurgaon Railway Station to Bhondsi Village has already begun. Preliminary information regarding the corridor has already been gathered. A more detailed report will be prepared, after which the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be finalized.

In the coming years, metro connectivity will improve in Gurugram and surrounding areas. This will reduce traffic congestion and pollution levels, while also accelerating development. The state government is very serious about expanding the metro network.
