Metro Stations Name Change: The State Naming Authority, headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has changed the names of nine metro stations in Delhi. Seven metro stations in Delhi have received minor changes, while two have been completely renamed.
Metro Stations Name Change: The State Naming Authority, headed by the Delhi Chief Minister, has changed the names of nine metro stations in Delhi. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the authority considered proposals for renaming 21 metro stations, of which 12 were left unchanged, seven received minor changes, and two were completely renamed. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that these new names have been chosen in a way that there is no confusion for passengers and the geographical identity of the area concerned is completely clear.
Names of these two stations changed
The Chief Minister stated that the names of 21 Delhi Metro stations have been reviewed. In doing so, consideration was given to local identity, historical, social, and cultural significance, as well as suggestions from public representatives and citizens. Consequently, the decision has been made to completely change the names of two stations. North Pitampura has been renamed Haiderpur Village, while Pitampura has been renamed Madhuban Chowk.
Names have been amended
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the names of seven stations have been amended. These include Prashant Vihar being renamed North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Jagatpur being changed to Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Derawal Nagar being changed to Nanak Piau-Derawal Nagar, Sonia Vihar being changed to Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 being changed to Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar, Khanpur being changed to Khanpur-Vayusainabad, and West Enclave being changed to Mangolpur Kalan-West Enclave.
Names of 12 stations to remain unchanged
At a meeting of the State Names Authority (SNA) chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the names of seven of the 12 stations were retained as per the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Detailed Project Report (DPR). These include Majlis Park, Bhalswa, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Deepali Chowk, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Surghat, Jharodha Majra, Burari, Pushpanjali, and Maujpur-Babarpur.
Decision made after careful consideration of each name
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that Metro stations are not just a means of transportation but also reflect the identity and culture of the area. Therefore, each name has been carefully chosen. The names have been chosen in a way that does not cause inconvenience to the public and clearly reflects the identity of the area. The meeting regarding the name changes also considered recommendations received from citizens.
