Central government employees are awaiting their Dearness Allowance (DA) for the first half of 2026. Usually, a decision on the first half’s DA is made around Holi, but this time it’s been delayed. Consequently, central government employees are eagerly anticipating every cabinet meeting of the Narendra Modi government. Central employees are eagerly waiting to know whether the government has made any decisions on allowances in the cabinet meetings. Let’s find out the details.

Several decisions made in Wednesday’s meeting

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) met again on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government took several important decisions at this meeting. The government approved a grant of ₹1,718.56 crore to the Cotton Corporation of India for the price support provided under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement system for the 2023-24 cotton season. The Cabinet also approved expenditure to reimburse the price support provided under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) operations for cotton during the 2023-24 cotton season (October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024).

Green light given to grand scheme

Furthermore, the government on Wednesday approved the ₹33,660 crore “Bharat Industrial Development Scheme” (Bhavya) to promote manufacturing, under which 100 “plug-and-play” industrial parks will be developed across the country. The scheme is expected to generate around 1.5 million direct jobs. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced the decision.

Under the ambitious plan, industrial parks ranging from 100 acres to 1,000 acres will be developed, with financial assistance of up to ₹1 crore per acre. Plug-and-play parks are industrial zones with developed infrastructure where companies can immediately begin production or operations without lengthy preparation. These parks will provide basic infrastructure such as internal roads, underground utilities, drainage, waste management, and administrative infrastructure. Additionally, value-added facilities such as ready-made factory sheds, custom-designed and tailored “built-to-suit” units, testing laboratories, warehouses, and worker housing will also be developed. Projects under the scheme will be selected through a “challenge mode,” ensuring that only investment-ready and improvement-oriented proposals are pursued.

– Further, the Union Cabinet has approved the Small Hydropower Development Scheme, which will promote clean energy, attract investment and create employment in rural and remote areas.

– Approval has been given to widen the Barabanki-Bahraich section of the National Highway to four lanes.

What happened to dearness allowance?

Once again, no decision was made on dearness allowance in the meeting. This means that central government employees will have to wait longer for a decision on allowances. Currently, the dearness allowance for central government employees is 58 percent. Similarly, dearness relief for pensioners is the same. Whenever the government takes a decision on allowances, millions of employees across the country will benefit, including retired employees.
