A 5-kilometer section between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi was also commissioned on Sunday. A 21-kilometer metro track between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh also opened today. With speeds of up to 180 kilometers per hour, the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System will connect major urban centers like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut to Delhi at high speeds. Sarai Kale Khan, the corridor’s starting station, is one of four new Namo Bharat stations.
Meerut Metro, the country’s fastest
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Meerut Metro services between Meerut South and Modipuram, which will operate on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat. This initiative is the first of its kind in the country. The Meerut Metro will be India’s fastest metro system, with a maximum operating speed of approximately 120 km per hour. The metro will cover the entire distance in just 30 minutes, stopping at all scheduled stops, the statement said.
Premium and Standard Coaches on the Namo Bharat Train
Premium coaches are equipped with fire extinguishers, plug-in and USB charging points, comfortable luxury seats, magazine and coat stands, and luggage storage. The coaches are equipped with display screens that provide information about the train’s speed and next station. Premium coaches also have vending machines for refreshments, although standard coaches do not.
The Speed of the Namo Bharat Train
The Namo Bharat Train has a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour, although it will operate at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour. This six-coach, fully air-conditioned train has been designed with passenger comfort and safety in mind. Starting today, passengers will also be able to use the metro service between Meerut South and Modipuram.
Cities like Ghaziabad and Meerut will be connected to Baghpat
The Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail Corridor is also considered politically significant. Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Baghpat will now be directly connected to Delhi. Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh next year, and these three districts, comprising approximately 15 assembly seats, are considered strategically important for the Bharatiya Janata Party. The party suffered losses in western Uttar Pradesh in the last Lok Sabha elections. Consequently, the party is aiming to regain its dominance here.
