The trial of face biometric verification during NEET 2025 was successful. Now from 2026, live photo and face verification will be made mandatory in all major entrance exams including NEET JEE. Read full details.
NEET 2025: The National Testing Agency has taken a major decision to make NEET, the country’s largest medical entrance exam, more secure and transparent. Facial biometric verification was trialed for NEET 2025, which was completely successful.
This technology will now be implemented in NEET JEE and other major national entrance exams from 2026. Its aim is to completely eliminate the problem of exam fraud and dummy candidates.
Face biometric verification is a modern identification system that uses digital technology to identify a candidate’s face. The system scans the candidate’s eyes, nose, jaw, and facial features and compares them with existing records. This process is completely real-time, eliminating the possibility of any identification errors.
The face biometric system was trialed at selected exam centers during the NEET 2025 exam. Live photographs of candidates were taken before and upon entry into the exam center. These were immediately matched with data already in the system. The technology worked flawlessly, and any identification errors were immediately detected. This is why the NTA has decided to implement it further.
Entrance examinations will see significant changes starting in 2026. Candidates will be required to provide a live photo when applying online. Facial biometric matching will be performed before entering the examination center. Real-time photos will be taken using a webcam or mobile camera. If the photo does not match, they will not be allowed to appear for the exam.
Now, no student will be able to have another person sit for the exam in their place. The face biometric system performs face matching in real time. This will instantly identify any fake candidate. This will virtually eliminate the problem of dummy candidates and maintain the fairness of the exam.
Students must exercise caution both during the application and the exam. Photos should be unfiltered and unedited. No facial coverings should be worn on the exam day. Photos must be taken in proper lighting for the camera. Aadhaar information must be accurate and up-to-date.
