Work on the elevated road connecting Umang Bhardwaj Chowk on the Gurugram-Pataudi Road to Hero Honda Chowk on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway has been expedited. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has shared the design with the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL). After receiving a no-objection certificate (NOC) from GMRL, the proposal will be sent to the Haryana government for approval.
Industry Minister Rao Narbir Singh has ordered GMDA officials to construct an elevated road from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk. Following this order, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) prepared a new design and submitted it to GMDA. According to this, the construction of this road will cost ₹182 crore. The Old Gurugram Metro is also scheduled to operate on this three-kilometer-long road. A metro station is also proposed in Udyog Vihar Phase 6.
The road’s design has been in development for the past five years.
The design for this road has been in development for the past five years, but it has not yet been finalized. Initially, the plan was to have three lanes on each side. On the orders of Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh, work began on an elevated road, but the plan failed due to budget constraints. The third attempt failed, and now, for the fourth time, the plan to construct an elevated road is being reworked.
Land Information Sought
The GMDA has approved the design for the elevated road. The NHAI has been asked whether additional land acquisition will be required for the construction of this road. After receiving reports from GMRL and NHAI, the proposal will be sent to the Chief Minister.
Dirty Water Problems
NHAI has started road repairs from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk. Dirty sewer water coming from Mohammadpur Jharsa village near Bikaner Sweets is causing problems. This water is accumulating on the road, causing inconvenience to drivers.
Amit Godara, Executive Engineer, GMDA, said, “There is a plan to elevate the road from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk. We have sought some information from GMRL and NHAI regarding this elevated road. Once this information is received, work will begin to finalize the plan.”
