Construction of the Ganga Expressway, stretching from Meerut to Prayagraj, is nearly complete, with only some work remaining on the Unnao-Haldwani section. 1,497 of the 1,498 structures on this 594-km-long expressway have been completed. According to UPDA, the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate it by January, following the completion of the trial run in December. This expressway will boost the industrial development of several districts.
New Expressway: Work on the Ganga Expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj is nearly complete. Only six percent of the work remains on the Unnao-Haldwani section of the third section of the expressway. The entire expressway, including the Meerut-Badaun section, is ready for operation. The 594-km expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj includes a total of 1,498 major structures. Work on 1,497 of these structures has been completed.
The first sector, from Meerut to Badaun, spans 129 km. Work on all of these, including Simbhaoli, has been completed. According to UPDA officials, the trial run will be completed in the first week of December. Following the final testing, the Prime Minister will inaugurate it on January 15th. Fighter aircraft landing structures have been constructed at five locations on the expressway, which can be used in emergency situations.
The state will receive a new highway to Prayagraj in the form of the Ganga Expressway in the coming year. Construction of this 594-kilometer expressway will be completed in November. Its completion will accelerate the industrial development of Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. Industrial corridors are being built on both sides of the expressway.
This will provide a more convenient route for people to travel between the two ends of the state. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is finalizing the expressway. 7,453.13 hectares of land has been acquired for this ₹36,230 crore project. It is currently being extended to Haridwar.
The normal speed of vehicles on this six-lane expressway will be around 120 kilometers per hour. A 3.5-kilometer airstrip for fighter jets has also been completed in Jalalabad, Shahjahanpur, along the expressway. Three more such sites are in the pipeline.
Work at Simbhaoli is complete
Work on the railway track at Simbhaoli on the Ganga Expressway was incomplete. Three meetings were held with officials over the past two months regarding this matter. Now, this work has been completed. A report was submitted to UPDA on Friday, paving the way for the trial. Official sources claim that prior to the administrative trial, a departmental review will be conducted in the presence of a trial expert. The dates for the final trial and subsequent inauguration will be announced.
