A new expressway will be built between Noida and Greater Noida, which will reduce traffic jams. It will be built from Okhla Barrage to Yamuna Expressway.
New expressway: The Noida Authority Board has given in-principle approval to build another expressway between Noida and Greater Noida. This expressway will be built from Okhla Barrage (near Kalindi Kunj) to Yamuna Expressway. The traffic pressure on the existing 25 km long Noida Expressway is increasing. With the increase in residential and commercial activities on this route, the number of vehicles will increase further due to Noida International Airport. In view of this, now the Noida Authority has planned to build another expressway. The Noida Authority will conduct a comprehensive traffic survey and feasibility study for this project. After this, a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared.
Two options are being considered to build a new expressway between Noida and Greater Noida. First, an eight-lane ground expressway. Second, a six-lane elevated road. The Noida Authority wants to involve the National Highways Authority (NHAI) for this project. If the NHAI does not develop it as a national highway, then Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway authorities will jointly take the project forward. According to sources, the three authorities can complete the project by forming a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).
This will be the route
The new expressway will be built from Okhla Barrage to Yamuna Expressway through Hindon-Yamuna Doab. Its route will be decided keeping in mind the existing road structure. Currently, there is a four-lane road for 11 kilometers from Okhla Barrage, which passes near Sector 94, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134 and 135. Further, the 14 kilometer long Hindon-Yamuna Doab Bandh road passes near Sector 150, 160, 162, 164, 165 and 167.
The new expressway is planned to connect Sector 168 to the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway and the main road between Sectors 149A and 150 in Sector 150. Entry-exit points, loops and underpasses on the expressway will be developed under a special plan.
Concern over increasing traffic on Noida Expressway
Traffic on Noida Expressway is continuously increasing. The main reason for this is the large-scale development of residential, industrial and commercial areas and the increasing population of Greater Noida after Covid. Due to this, there is a situation of jam on the expressway throughout the day. Experts say that if an alternative route is not built soon, then Noida Expressway can also face the problem of traffic jam like Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
