New FASTag Rules: If you use Fastag, we’d like to inform you that the rules for Fastag will change next month, February 1st, directly impacting Fastag users. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented the new rules. The Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for cars has been discontinued for new Fastags issued starting February 1st. This decision applies to new Fastags issued for cars, jeeps, and vans. Let’s learn the details.
New FASTag Rules Starting February 1st
The KYV process for cars will be discontinued on new FASTags starting February 1st, providing private vehicle owners with relief from post-activation issues. Previously, KYV was implemented as a post-activation verification to verify vehicle information, but this often caused delays and required users to repeatedly follow up, even though valid documents had been submitted at the time of purchase. To address this issue, the KYV process will now be discontinued.
This new FASTag rule will apply to FASTags purchased from both physical points of sale and online platforms. The new rule will allow users to use FASTags without interruptions or delays.
Furthermore, KYV will not be required regularly for old FASTags already issued. Users will only need to perform KYV if a specific issue arises, such as an incorrect FASTag being issued, a loose or damaged tag, or suspected misuse.
A thorough inspection will be conducted beforehand
Under the new rules, banks will now conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle before activating the FASTag. The vehicle’s data will be matched with the vehicle database. If the information is not available there, verification will be done based on the registration certificate. The same rule will apply to those purchasing FASTags online.
