GST Rates on LPG: The new GST rates will come into effect across the country from September 22, two days from now. With the implementation of these new GST rates, the prices of various goods, including food and beverages, will decrease nationwide. Some companies have already announced that they will pass on the benefit of the lower GST rate to their customers. Several other companies are also expected to reduce the prices of daily-use items in the coming days. The government is closely monitoring the situation after the GST rate reduction, ensuring that companies and retailers pass on the full benefit of the lower rates to consumers.

Different GST rates for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders

Meanwhile, a question is circulating on social media: will this affect the price of LPG cylinders? The government levies GST on LPG cylinders as well, but the GST rates for domestic and commercial cylinders are different. Let’s understand the complete calculation to see whether customers will benefit from the government’s GST rate change.

Will there be any impact on domestic LPG cylinders?

At the GST Council meeting held on September 3, no changes were made to the tax slab for LPG cylinders. Despite the new GST rates coming into effect from September 22, the GST rates for both domestic and commercial cylinders will remain unchanged. Currently, the government levies a 5% GST on both subsidized and non-subsidized domestic LPG cylinders. This means that the GST rate will not change from September 22. In other words, you will continue to pay the same price for the cylinder. Currently, a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder costs ₹853 in Delhi.

Will there be any impact on commercial LPG cylinders?

Similarly, for commercial LPG cylinders, the current GST rate is 18%. These cylinders are used in hotels, roadside eateries, restaurants, and for industrial heating. The GST Council has made no changes to the tax rate for these cylinders either. From September 22, they will continue to be sold at the same price. Currently, a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder costs ₹1580 in Delhi.
