A major step is being taken to strengthen the road network in Uttar Pradesh. Traveling from Purvanchal to Delhi could soon become easier and faster. In fact, preparations have begun to build the Lucknow Link Expressway in the state, which will connect the Purvanchal Expressway with the Agra-Lucknow Expressway.
A major step is being taken to strengthen road connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. Travel between the eastern and western parts of the state could soon become easier and faster than ever before. The government is preparing to build the Lucknow Link Expressway, which will connect the Purvanchal Expressway to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. Once completed, it will create a high-speed corridor from Purvanchal to Delhi, providing relief to travelers from long traffic jams.
A New 50-Kilometer Link Expressway to be Built
The proposed Lucknow Link Expressway will be approximately 50.94 kilometers long. It is a greenfield expressway project, meaning it will be built entirely on new land using modern technology. The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has issued a tender for this project. The construction of this expressway is estimated to cost approximately ₹2,864.82 crore. The government aims to complete the project within 36 months.
Direct Connection to the Purvanchal Expressway
The 341-kilometer-long Purvanchal Expressway, inaugurated in 2021, connects Ghazipur to Chand Sarai village near Lucknow. The journey from Ghazipur to Lucknow can be completed in approximately three and a half hours. This expressway has improved road connectivity to districts like Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ghazipur.
The Agra-Lucknow Expressway will create a high-speed network
The 302-kilometer-long Agra-Lucknow Expressway already connects western Uttar Pradesh and the capital. This expressway has significantly reduced travel time between Agra and Lucknow. Now, when the Lucknow Link Expressway is completed, it will establish a direct connection between the Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressways. This will enable high-speed travel from Purvanchal to Delhi-NCR without the hassle of city traffic.
Relief from Lucknow’s traffic jams
Currently, vehicles traveling from western Uttar Pradesh to Purvanchal face heavy traffic jams around Lucknow. However, with the completion of the new link expressway, long-distance vehicles will be able to travel directly through the high-speed corridor without entering the city. This will not only reduce traffic within the capital but may also reduce accidents caused by heavy vehicles.
