The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday said that it will soon issue Rs 100 and Rs 200 banknotes bearing the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra. “The design of these notes is similar to the Rs 100 and Rs 200 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi (new) series,” the Reserve Bank said in a statement.

The Reserve Bank said in a statement, “The design of these notes is similar to the Rs 100 and Rs 200 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi (new) series.” Meanwhile, all the Rs 100 and Rs 200 banknotes already issued by the Reserve Bank will remain legal tender.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon issue a Rs 50 banknote bearing the signature of the central bank’s new governor Sanjay Malhotra. Malhotra takes over in December 2024, replacing Shaktikanta Das, who stepped down after the completion of his extended term. “The design of these notes is similar in all respects to the Rs 50 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series,” the RBI said in a statement.

What will happen to the old notes?
If you are worried about the old notes after the new 50 rupees note has come into the market, then RBI has also answered this. RBI said in a statement that all old 50 rupees notes will remain legal tender.
Who is Sanjay Malhotra?
Sanjay Malhotra is a 1990 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Rajasthan cadre. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and a Masters in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA.
Exhibiting leadership and excellence in his career spanning over 33 years, Sanjay Malhotra has worked in diverse sectors including power, finance and taxation, information technology, mining, etc. Prior to this, he was Secretary (Revenue) in the Ministry of Finance and in the previous assignment, he held the post of Secretary in the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
He has extensive experience in the field of finance and taxation in the state and central government. Under his current assignment, he plays an important role in tax policy formulation with respect to direct and indirect taxes.

Malhotra has immense experience in the field of financial services. He has held important responsibilities as Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It is being told that the decision to appoint Sanjay Malhotra has been taken in view of his experience in the financial services sector.
