Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted about the new labor codes on the social media platform X. It said, “Today our government implemented four new labor codes. This is one of the biggest and most progressive labor-based reforms since independence. It empowers our workers. It will help simplify compliance and promote ease of doing business.”
New Labor Codes Will Replace Old Laws
The four new labor codes implemented by the government include the Code on Wages (2019), the Industrial Relations Code (2020), the Code on Social Security, and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSHWC) Code (2020). These codes replace 29 central labor laws previously in force under the central government. They include several new provisions that benefit workers.
