China has launched a new online visa system to simplify the visa process in India, starting December 20, 2025. Indian citizens can now apply for visas by filling out forms and uploading documents online, increasing travel and connectivity. This move will boost tourism and trade.
New Online Visa System: To improve relations between India and China and facilitate people-to-people travel, China has taken a new step to modernize and expedite the visa process in India. A new online visa system has been launched, effective December 20, 2025. Indian citizens can now fill out visa forms online and upload all required documents directly to the website. This will make the visa process much faster and more convenient than before, further enhancing travel and contact between the two countries.
Online Application Process and Center Information
Under the new system, applicants must first create or log in to their account on the official website. They will then complete the online form and upload all required documents. Applicants can submit their passports and physical documents to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center only after their application status is reviewed online and they receive a confirmation email. Despite the new system, the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in New Delhi will continue to assist visitors. The center is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is located at Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, Connaught Place.
Impact on Tourism and Trade
China’s move is being considered a significant effort to promote people-to-people contact and travel between India and China. India resumed issuing tourist visas to Chinese citizens worldwide in November 2025, while business visas were already being issued.
The two countries took several significant steps in 2025 to boost people-to-people trust, including the resumption of direct commercial flights and the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Experts believe that the new online visa system will strengthen tourism, trade, and ties between the two countries. This will not only simplify the visa process for Indian travelers but also boost cultural and economic ties between the two countries.
