Indian Railways is considering a special proposal that will allow passengers with reserved seat tickets to change their boarding point from a specific station and board the train from another station along the route. Currently, this facility is available only until the first reservation chart is prepared.
Change in Boarding Station
In a letter dated February 19, 2026, the Railway Board informed CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) that since the first reservation chart is now prepared 10 to 20 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, it has proposed to allow passengers to change their boarding point until the preparation of the second reservation chart to facilitate this facility.
The Railway Board stated, “Considering the change in the preparation time of the first reservation chart to 10 to 20 hours before the scheduled departure of the train and to make it easier for passengers to change their boarding point, it is proposed to allow boarding point changes until the preparation of the second reservation chart.”
CRIS is requested to examine the feasibility of this proposal and submit its comments to this office at the earliest for taking a final decision in the matter.” Indian Railways’ chart preparation time before train departure
According to the Indian Railways’ new guidelines on chart preparation time, passengers should note that the first reservation chart for trains departing between 05:01 and 14:00 is preferred to be prepared by 20:00 the previous day.
Meanwhile, for trains departing between 14:01 and 23:59, as well as trains departing between 00:00 and 05:00, the first reservation chart will be prepared at least 10 hours in advance.
