22 carat gold
Mostly 22 carat gold is used in making jewellery. In 22 carat, 22 parts are gold and the remaining two are other metals like silver, zinc, nickel and other mixed metals. It is also known as 91.67 percent pure gold. The presence of mixed metals makes it hard and hence it is used in making jewellery, making it durable. The number 916 is used by jewelers for 22 carats.
18 carat gold
In 18 carat gold, 75 percent gold and 25 percent other metals like copper, silver are mixed. This type of gold is used to make stone studded jewelery and other diamond jewellery. It is less expensive than 22 carat gold. Its color is light yellow. It is stronger than 22 or 24 carat. Jewelers use the number 750 for 18 carats.
14 carat gold
Gold of 14 carat is 58.5 percent pure gold and the rest is a mixture of other metals. The number 585 is used for 14 carats.
