In a high-level meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Thursday, crowd control at railway stations was discussed and many major decisions were taken. All unauthorized entry points of 60 major stations of the country will be sealed. Only passengers with confirmed tickets will be allowed to go to the platforms.
This system will be implemented at these railway stations
Under the pilot project, this system is being started with immediate effect at New Delhi, Anand Vihar, Surat, Varanasi, Ayodhya and Patna stations. Tickets will be sold according to the capacity of the trains. Dress code has also been implemented for railway staff at the stations. This change is being made by the railways by learning from the stampede at Delhi station during the Maha Kumbh, so that passengers do not face any problem during festivals.
Waiting rooms were built outside 60 stations during the Maha Kumbh, which helped in controlling the crowd in Surat, Patna and New Delhi. Passengers were allowed to go to the platform only when the train arrived. Now by making it permanent, the sudden crowd on the platform can be stopped in the waiting room.
Ticketless passengers will be stopped in the waiting area itself
Ticketless or waitlisted passengers will be stopped in the waiting area itself. A wide foot-over bridge will also be constructed to go from one platform to another at the stations. Its length will be 12 meters and width six meters. Two new designs of standard bridge have been prepared.
A large number of cameras will be installed for surveillance in all stations and surrounding areas. There are also plans to build war rooms at big stations. Work can be done in the war room in case of crowd. Modern designed digital communication equipment like walkie-talkie etc. will be installed.
Dress code has also been fixed for the employees
The Railway Ministry has also fixed the dress code for the railway staff and service personnel working at the stations. They will be given identity cards and uniforms of a new design, so that only authorized persons can enter the platform.
In case of emergency, the uniform will make it easier to identify the railway staff. To control the system at the stations, a senior officer will be made the station director, to whom the heads of all other departments will report.
Tickets will not be sold beyond capacity
The director will also be given financial powers, so that immediate decisions can be taken to improve the system. The director will also have the authority to control ticket sales according to the capacity of the station and the available trains. Tickets will not be sold beyond capacity.
