New Traffic Challan Rules in India: Every year thousands of people lose their lives in road accidents in India. The biggest reason behind these accidents is ignoring traffic rules. People make mistakes like overspeeding, using mobile while driving, not wearing helmet or driving after drinking alcohol. The government imposes heavy fines on them. Now the government has made the rules more strict. New traffic challan rules have come into force across the country from 2025, in which many old rules have been made more stringent. Now making such a mistake while driving on the road can cost you heavily.

Drinking and driving will be expensive

According to the new rules, if a person is caught driving under the influence of alcohol, then for the first time itself he can be fined Rs 10,000 or jailed for 6 months. If the same person makes the same mistake again, the fine can be up to Rs 15,000 and the jail sentence can increase up to 2 years.

Now a fine of Rs 5000 for jumping a red light

If you break the signal, now you will have to pay a challan of Rs 5,000, whereas earlier this fine was only Rs 500.

Heavy penalty for speeding and carrying more goods

If a driver drives faster than the prescribed speed, he will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 5,000. At the same time, if a truck or commercial vehicle carries more goods than the prescribed limit, then a fine of more than Rs 20,000 will be imposed on it.

Driving without a driving license

Now if you are caught driving without a valid driving license, then a fine of Rs 5,000 will have to be paid. However, if you have a valid DL in DigiLocker or mParivahan app, then it will be accepted.

Penalty for not having pollution certificate

PUC certificate has been made mandatory to control the smoke coming out of the vehicle. If you do not have it, then there can be a fine of Rs 10,000 and 6 months imprisonment. Apart from this, community service can also be ordered.

Challan for not wearing seat belt

Now it is necessary for not only the driver but all the passengers in the car to wear seat belt. A fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed for not wearing a seat belt, whether you are sitting in the front or back.

Penalty for three riders on a bike

If three people are found sitting on a two-wheeler, then a fine of Rs 1,000 will have to be paid.

Riding a bike without helmet will no longer be allowed

Earlier there was a fine of Rs 100 without a helmet, which has now been increased to Rs 1,000. Also, the driver’s driving license can also be suspended for 3 months.

Strict punishment for minor driving

If a minor is caught driving, his parents can be fined Rs 25,000 and jailed for 3 years. Along with this, the registration of that vehicle will be canceled for 1 year and that minor will not get a driving license before the age of 25.

Strictness on mobile use

Using a mobile phone while driving is now considered an even more severe crime. A challan of up to Rs 5,000 can be issued for this, as it increases the chances of road accidents manifold.
