New UPI Payments Rules: Children, seniors, and staff can also make payments using your UPI ID; new service launched

Now, children, the elderly, and even staff members will be able to make payments using your UPI ID, eliminating the need for them to rely on you for small expenses. NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL) on Tuesday (November 25) announced the launch of the UPI Circle Full Delegation feature on the BHIM Payments app.

New UPI Payments Rules: Now, children, the elderly, and staff members will be able to make payments using your UPI ID, eliminating the need for them to rely on you for small expenses. This is because NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL) announced the launch of the UPI Circle Full Delegation feature on the BHIM Payments app on Tuesday (November 25). This allows primary users to authorize their trusted contacts to make UPI payments on their behalf up to ₹15,000. This move could be a game-changer for senior citizens who have their own bank accounts but are often hesitant to make digital payments. It will also be a significant game-changer for younger individuals who can manage their daily or educational expenses with secure, parent-controlled access. This makes shared and household financial management easier, ensuring complete transparency and control.

How does UPI Circle work on BHIM?

“With UPI Circle Full Delegation, a primary user can authorize another user to initiate and complete UPI payments directly from the primary user’s account,” TOI reported. The primary user can set a monthly spending limit of up to Rs 15,000 and choose an expiry period of up to 5 years.

This feature of the BHIM app simplifies everyday digital payments between family, dependents, or small business staff, and provides clear visibility of all transactions. UPI Circle with Full Delegation enhances financial empowerment by allowing trusted users to make secure digital payments without requiring their bank-linked UPI ID or bank account.

Lalita Nataraj, MD & CEO, NBSL, said, “With Full Delegation, UPI Circle goes beyond real-time approvals and enables reliable, autonomous payments within set limits. This reflects how Indian households and businesses naturally function, which are based on trust, flexibility, and accountability. Through such useful features, the BHIM Payments app continues to make digital transactions easier and safer for every segment of society.”

Features of UPI Circle with Full Delegation:

Support for Senior Citizens: Senior citizens can have a family member manually authorize payments for small transactions. They are often hesitant to use digital payments, and this will help them gain a reliable level of security.

Empowering Young Adults: Parents can allow children to manage their daily or educational expenses through controlled, delegated access, setting monthly limits, without compromising security.

Delegation security for small businesses: Business owners can allow their staff to pay for operational expenses like fuel and tolls, ensuring transparency and accountability and eliminating the need to handle cash.

Supporting digitally inexperienced users: Working professionals can help those less familiar with digital platforms by providing them with payment access with real-time monitoring, allowing them to easily manage daily expenses.
