As per the instructions of the government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a special road safety campaign, ‘No helmet, no petrol’ will be started from September 1. According to the official statement issued on Wednesday (August 30) in UP’s capital Lucknow, this campaign will be run in coordination with the District Road Safety Committee under the leadership of the District Magistrate. According to the statement, during this period, officials of Police, Revenue / District Administration and Transport Department will take up the responsibility of monitoring.
In this campaign being run under the leadership of District Magistrates in coordination with Road Safety Committees, officials of Police, Transport, Revenue and District Administration will work jointly. So that it can be ensured that two-wheeler drivers follow the helmet rules under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Yogi government has appealed to the common people to give full cooperation in this campaign. Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 makes it compulsory for two-wheeler drivers and pillion riders to wear helmets. Section 194 D provides for penalty for violation.

Transport Commissioner Brijesh Narayan Singh told news agency PTI, “This campaign is not a punishment but a pledge of safety. This campaign will run from September 1 to 30. All citizens, petrol pump operators and oil companies are appealed to give full cooperation in this. Make ‘helmet first, petrol later’ a rule, because wearing a helmet is the simplest insurance of life.”
The government has said that the purpose of the ‘no helmet, no petrol’ campaign is not to punish anyone. Rather, it is to encourage common citizens to adopt safe behavior according to the law.
To implement the campaign successfully, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has been given the authority to do the necessary coordination and monitoring at petrol pumps. The Information and Public Relations Department has also been entrusted with the responsibility of spreading awareness about it.
