Noida International Airport update: After Yamuna International Airport received its aerodrome license, construction work at Noida Airport is progressing rapidly. A delegation met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday.
Greater Noida: A delegation led by Christoph Snellmann, CEO of Yamuna International Airport Pvt. Ltd. (YIAPL), met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. Following the receipt of the aerodrome license, officials briefed the Chief Minister on the progress and upcoming steps of the airport project.
The delegation reported that a total of 48 check-in counters, 9 security check lanes, and 9 immigration counters have been constructed at the airport. Furthermore, 10 airbridges have been constructed for passenger convenience. The runway has been developed to handle approximately 30 flights per hour.
Airport Equipped with Modern Facilities
Yaple’s CEO stated that the terminal building covers an area of approximately 1.35 lakh square meters. Lounges for domestic and international passengers are being developed. 28 aircraft parking stands and a state-of-the-art logistics hub are being developed within the airport complex. Self-baggage drop-off, digital passenger processing, and a biometric system are being implemented for passengers, providing a fast and seamless travel experience.
The airport is also state-of-the-art from an environmental and energy-efficient perspective. Solar energy, rainwater harvesting, and electric vehicle charging stations are being developed within the complex. In the first phase, a runway and a terminal building have been constructed, with a capacity for approximately 12 million passengers per year. This will be expanded to 30 million passengers in the second phase, and to 70 million passengers in the third and fourth phases.
First Airport to be Connected by High-Speed Train
Noida Airport will be connected to the Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Train Corridor. An underground station will be built at the airport. For this project, a team from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) met with officials at the Yamuna Authority to discuss station construction, alignment, and infrastructure around the airport.
According to a preliminary survey, the 70-kilometer journey from Sarai Kalka in Delhi to Noida Airport will take only 21 minutes. The station will be connected via an elevated track on the expressway divider and will then connect to the GTC via the Yamuna Expressway. Upon completion, Noida Airport will become the first international airport to be directly connected by high-speed train.
Preparations for Inauguration and Operation
The airport’s aerodrome security program is currently under review by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Upon receiving this approval, the airport management will coordinate with all relevant agencies to determine the date for inauguration and commercial operations. CM Yogi Adityanath told the officials that the progress of the project should be ensured as per the timeline and modern and safe services should be provided to the passengers.
