Now FASTag will help in getting cashless and contactless fuel, know its benefits

Now customers will be able to take fuel through FASTag at select petrol pumps in the country. Indian Oil Corporation Limited and ICICI Bank have partnered to offer cashless and contactless service through FASTag at petrol pumps. FASTag users, whose accounts are linked with ICICI Bank, will be given benefits across IndianOil retail outlets across the country.

A statement issued on Sunday said, “ICICI Bank FASTag users can now enjoy a fully digitized experience at IndianOil fuel stations. The waiting time for fueling through FASTag will be reduced.”

In the first phase, this facility will be available at around 3,000 IndianOil retail outlets across India, according to the statement. The system will work with IndianOil’s automation system, which eliminates any manual intervention during the refueling process. Payment for petrol, diesel and lubricants can be done through ICICI Bank’s FASTag.

To avail this facility, the customer has to inform the operator while taking fuel. The operator will scan the FASTag / car number plate of the vehicle. After which an OTP will be sent to the customer for refueling. After entering the OTP in the POS machine, the transaction process will be completed.

FASTag is used for digital toll collection on national highways in the country. It aims to make the toll collection process faster and smoother and reduce the waiting time or long queues at toll plazas. FASTag has been issued to about 3.50 crore vehicles across India.

FASTag is a sticker which is put on the glass of vehicles. It works on Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID). When vehicles pass through the toll plaza, the toll tax is automatically paid from the bank or prepaid account linked to the FASTag. This eliminates the need for vehicles to stop at toll plazas to pay. This saves time as well as reduces pollution.

FASTag has been implemented for all passenger four wheelers, buses, trucks, lorries and commercial vehicles used in construction. Please note that it is not necessary to install FASTag in two wheelers.

FASTag can be purchased at any toll booth across the country. To buy FASTag, you will need an ID along with vehicle registration documents. Apart from toll plazas, FASTag can be purchased through 22 banks including State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank and Paytm Payments Bank. Some e-commerce platforms like Paytm, Amazon and Flipkart are also selling FASTag through their apps.
