You can know the PF balance just by making a missed call. For this, you have to make a missed call on 011-22901406 from the registered mobile number in your PF account. After this, you will get a message in which you will get information about the PF money in your account. Please tell that in the message, PF Number, Name, Date of Birth, EPF Balance along with the last deposited amount are also told.

You can also know the balance through SMS

To check EPF balance through SMS, message on 7738299899 from your registered mobile number. SMS will have to message EPFOHO UAN ENG at 7738299899. ENG describes the first three characters in which language you want information. Along with English, the message is also available in Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali languages. There are different codes for different languages which are as follows.

1. There is no code for English
2. Hindi-HIN
3. Punjab – PUN
4. Gujarati – GUJ
5. Marathi – MAR
6. Kannada – KAN
7. Telugu – TEL
8. Tamil – TAM
9. Malayalam – MAL

Tax change on PF interest from April 1

If an employee’s contribution to the Employees Provident Fund i.e. EPF and Voluntary Provident Fund (VPF) is deposited in excess of Rs 2.5 lakh in any one financial year, then the interest on the amount of more than Rs 2.5 lakh will be taxable. Now up to 2.5 lakhs, investment in EPF will be tax free in a financial year. Private sector employees will be able to invest up to 2.5 lakh and government employees up to 5 lakh tax free.
