Is OnePlus Being Dismantled? OnePlus, once known for disrupting the smartphone market with its launches and generating massive fan buzz, is now being shut down. According to a report, OnePlus’ parent company, Oppo, is gradually shutting down the company, though no official announcement has been made yet.

These claims come from Android Headlines, which states that OnePlus is being “shut down and put on life support.” The publisher says its findings are based on an investigation conducted across three continents and market data from four independent analyst firms.

This isn’t the first time OnePlus has undergone a major internal shakeup. A few years ago, in 2021, as part of a company transformation process, OnePlus merged parts of its design and research teams with its parent company, Oppo.

At the time, OnePlus stated that this would help share resources and speed up product development, while the brand remained independent. However, fans received mixed reactions to that change. Now, that same shift is being recalled and seen as another sign of how deeply OnePlus’s future is tied to Oppo’s decisions.

The Disintegration of OnePlus: A Silent Decline Behind the Scenes

According to Android Headlines, several warning signs point to OnePlus facing serious difficulties. The report states that global shipments will decline by more than 20% in 2024, from approximately 17 million units to between 13 and 14 million.

The situation appears even worse in India and China, which account for nearly three-quarters of OnePlus’ global shipments.

The report, citing IDC data, shows that OnePlus lost 32.6% of its market share in India, dropping to just 3.9% in 2024. Around 4,500 retail stores selling OnePlus devices reportedly closed during the same period. The report also claims that six Indian states stopped selling OnePlus phones because profit margins were too low for sellers.

The brand also failed to meet its growth targets in China. Instead of expanding, its market share declined from 2% to 1.6% in 2024, according to the report.

‘A brand on the brink of collapse’

Android Headlines claims that OnePlus’s operations in Europe and North America have also been drastically cut. Given these circumstances, the report states unequivocally that “this is a brand on the brink of collapse.”

The publisher says it has spoken to employees across North America, Europe, and Asia and backs up its claims with analyst data that “confirms what OnePlus is not saying.”

It also claims that major decisions are no longer being made by local teams. All key strategic decisions are being made directly from China.

Product Cancellation, Team Reductions

One of the most surprising claims in the report concerns a canceled product. According to Android Headlines, both the OnePlus Open 2 Foldable and OnePlus 15s compact flagship have been canceled and will not launch as scheduled.

If this report proves true, it would be a disappointing end for a brand that once revitalized the global smartphone market. After debuting with the OnePlus One in 2014, the company gradually built a strong fan base and evolved from a ‘flagship killer’ to a premium brand.

Recently, devices like the OnePlus 15, OnePlus Pad 3, and OnePlus Watch were well-received for their price and performance.

What will happen to existing OnePlus users?

According to Android Headlines, Oppo has promised that existing OnePlus users will continue to receive security updates and warranty support. However, the report also states that once updates for existing models stop, the OnePlus brand may be coming to an end.

At present, there has been no official statement from OnePlus or Oppo. However, based on claims, data, and ground information, this report raises serious questions about whether one of the most recognizable names in the smartphone world is quietly bidding farewell.

OnePlus India CEO Calls Reports False

OnePlus India’s CEO stated in a post on X, “Recent reports about OnePlus’s closure are false. OnePlus India continues to operate as normal.”

We request all stakeholders to verify information from official sources before sharing unsubstantiated claims.
