Pakistan Dung Tax: Amidst the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the energy crisis in Pakistan has deepened. According to media reports, a “cow dung tax” has been imposed in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Officials claim that this tax has been levied under the “Clean Punjab” initiative. Under this scheme, a daily “cow dung tax” of 30 Pakistani rupees has been implemented per cow or buffalo. The objective of this initiative is to produce biogas by collecting buffalo dung from 168 designated livestock centers.
Flood of Memes in Pakistan Over ‘Cow Dung Tax’
This move comes at a time when there appear to be no signs of the conflict with Iran subsiding. Pakistan has hiked fuel prices; diesel rates have risen to 520.35 Pakistani Rupees per liter, while petrol now costs 458.40 Pakistani Rupees per liter. The imposition of a “cow dung tax” has triggered a flood of memes across social media platforms, with people mocking the government.
One post remarked that even raising livestock has now become a difficult task. Another user quipped that the government would soon levy a tax on human waste as well, suggesting that such a tax should instead be applied to the “dung-filled minds” of politicians. Some users have even proposed staging protests in front of government offices, bringing along herds of buffaloes.
