The United Arab Emirates has reminded Pakistan that it has always supported it on cricket-related issues. The Emirates Cricket Board believes that not hosting the India-Pakistan match will cause financial losses to the Associate nations.
Uncertainty continues to grow over the high-voltage match between India and Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Following Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has also written to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), urging them to reconsider their decision to withdraw from the India-Pakistan match scheduled for February 15th. Meanwhile, the ICC is also actively engaged in dialogue to resolve the dispute so that the tournament’s most important match is not jeopardized.
According to a report by RevSportz, the Emirates Cricket Board, in its letter, described Pakistan as a “valued member of the cricket family,” noting that it had provided its grounds to Pakistan during difficult times and helped host several international matches. The Board also reminded that the UAE has played a crucial role in maintaining Pakistan cricket on the global stage. Therefore, boycotting the match against India would not only be detrimental to cricket but could also negatively impact the financial well-being of associate nations.
The Emirates Cricket Board stated in its message that the cancellation of any major match in a major tournament like the T20 World Cup directly impacts broadcast rights, sponsorships, and global viewership, potentially harming the entire cricket ecosystem. Therefore, all parties should work together to find a practical and acceptable solution.
Sri Lanka also issued a stern warning
Previously, Sri Lanka Cricket had also appealed to the PCB to change its stance, citing potential financial losses. Now, with the UAE’s intervention, it is clear that the international cricket community is pressuring Pakistan to maintain the dignity of the tournament and resolve the dispute through dialogue.
The ICC is closely monitoring the entire matter. ICC officials have held several rounds of discussions with the PCB to ensure the tournament’s schedule and commercial structure are not affected in any way. The India-Pakistan match is crucial for the ICC, as it is considered the biggest draw in terms of broadcast revenue, advertising, and global viewership.
Meanwhile, a Cricbuzz report also revealed that Pakistan has placed three key demands before the ICC in order to play a match against India. The first demand is an increase in annual ICC funding. The ICC should also make efforts to restore bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan, and adhere to sportsmanship traditions such as post-match handshakes.
According to reports, the PCB will make a final decision only after consulting with the Pakistani government. Therefore, all eyes are now on whether Pakistan will soften its stance or whether the World Cup’s biggest match will remain mired in controversy. The India-Pakistan match is considered the world’s biggest cricket match.
In such a situation, if this match does not take place, it could impact not only the tournament but the entire cricket calendar and the global cricket economy. The coming days will determine whether cricket’s greatest rivalry will be seen on the field or will go down in history as a significant absence.
