PAN-AADHAAR Linking: My date of birth is not same in PAN and Aadhaar, how do I link them?

The last date for linking PAN-Aadhaar is 30 September 2021. Earlier this deadline was 30 June 2021. According to a report, by May 2021, about 38 crore PAN cards were linked with Aadhaar. More than 1.25 billion PAN cards have not been linked with Aadhaar. Many people face difficulties in linking PAN-Aadhaar. UIDAI has given frequently asked questions regarding this in its FAQ, which are as follows…




Question: I do not have any proof of date of birth. How can I update my date of birth in Aadhaar or PAN so that they can be linked?

Answer: If the date of birth document is provided in Aadhaar, the date of birth is considered as ‘verified’ and if the date of birth is given without any document, the date of birth is considered as ‘declared’.

Question: My date of birth is not same in PAN and Aadhaar. I am helpless to link them. please help me?

Answer: In order to link Aadhaar with PAN, you will have to modify the date of birth in either Aadhaar or PAN. If there is still problem in linking then you are requested to contact Income Tax Department

In order to link Aadhaar and PAN, ideally your demographic details (such as name, gender and date of birth) should be identical in both the documents.

In case of minor discrepancy between the Aadhaar name given by the taxpayer with the actual data of Aadhaar, a One Time Password (Aadhaar OTP) will be sent to the registered mobile number. The taxpayer has to ensure that the gender and date of birth are same in PAN and Aadhaar.

In rare cases where the name in Aadhaar is completely different from the name in PAN, linking will not be possible and the taxpayer will have to change his name in either Aadhaar or PAN data base.

Question: What to do if the names in Aadhaar and related service delivery data base differ?

Answer: In such document, in which name correction is required, the name should be corrected. In any case where the name correction is being done in Aadhaar, you can contact your nearest Permanent Enrollment Officer to update your name, age, address, mobile number and other demographic details (List (available at www.uidai.gov.in)) You can go to the centre. Documents required for updation of ID and correspondence address are required as proof.
