If the names on your PAN and Aadhaar card are different, then your PAN card will be cancelled. In such a situation, it is important that you get your PAN card updated. There is no need to go anywhere for this. This work can be done from home using your smartphone. For this, you just need to visit the official websites of NSDL and UTIITSL and you can get your PAN card updated in a few steps. Whereas, if you choose e-KYC mode for any kind of update, then your work will be done very easily and quickly.

These documents may be needed

  • To update your PAN card, you should have proof of identity such as your Aadhaar card, voter ID card, passport, driving license, ration card, etc. ready.
  • You may also need your Aadhaar card, electricity or water bill, bank account statement or passbook, post office passbook, rent agreement, or passport as proof of address.
  • To correct your date of birth, you may need your Aadhaar card, birth certificate issued by the municipal corporation, high school marksheet or matriculation certificate, passport, or driving license.

How to update your PAN card

  • To make any changes to your PAN card, first visit the Protean (formerly NSDL) or UTIITSL website.
  • Select the “Changes or Correction in Existing PAN Data” option in the “Online PAN Application” section.
  • Select your category, such as “Individual,” and fill in details such as your name, date of birth, email address, and mobile number. After submitting the form, you will receive a token number; note it down.
  • Now, choose your application method. You can choose between e-KYC and e-Sign, which are the fastest solutions. This allows you to receive an OTP through your Aadhaar card, eliminating the need to submit physical documents.
  • Tick the boxes for the information you wish to correct. You can select name, photo, or date of birth. Enter the correct information and click “Next.”
  • Upload the correct documents, such as your Aadhaar card, address proof, etc., to verify your updated information.
  • You’ll need to pay online for PAN card correction. You’ll need to pay ₹110 plus taxes.
  • After making the payment, authenticate your Aadhaar card. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. After entering it, your form will be e-signed.

Things to keep in mind

When changing your name on Aadhaar, keep in mind that if you’re changing your name after marriage, you may need to provide a marriage certificate or a passport bearing your husband’s name.

If you’ve legally changed your name, a copy of the gazette notification will be required. However, if the name remains the same and only spelling or minor changes are required, you can follow the steps described above.
