Along with the PAN card, the Aadhaar card is also one of the most important documents. The government has now made it mandatory to link the Aadhaar card and PAN card. The deadline for linking Aadhaar and PAN is now nearing, which is December 31, 2025. Those who do not link their PAN and Aadhaar by December 31, may face deactivation from January 1.
For whom is PAN-Aadhaar linking necessary?
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance on April 3, those who received a PAN using their Aadhaar enrollment ID before October 1, 2024, are required to provide their Aadhaar number to the Income Tax Department by December 31, i.e., link their Aadhaar and PAN. Furthermore, those whose PAN was generated using their Aadhaar enrollment ID are also required to link their PAN and Aadhaar after receiving their Aadhaar number.
What will happen if you don’t link your PAN with Aadhaar?
Those who don’t link their PAN with Aadhaar will have their PAN deactivated from January 1st, which could disrupt many financial tasks, including the ITR and refund process, higher TDS/TCS deductions, and work related to the stock market, mutual funds, and KYC.
If someone links their PAN and Aadhaar after January 1st, the process may take longer. Furthermore, they may also have to pay a fine of ₹1,000.
Easy Process to Link PAN and Aadhaar
- To link your Aadhaar and PAN card, first visit the Income Tax website, incometax.gov.in.
- Go to the Quick Links section on the homepage and select the Link Aadhaar option.
- Enter your name as per your Aadhaar and PAN card and proceed.
- If you are asked to pay any fee for linking the two, you can pay it online using any method.
- Make the payment and click Submit.
- After the payment is made, your Aadhaar and PAN cards will be linked.
