Pets License: Big news! Now you cannot keep a dog or cat at home without a license, otherwise you will be fined and legal action will be taken

Pets License: Keeping a pet dog and cat without a license in the metropolis will cost people heavily. Aligarh Municipal Corporation will run a campaign and issue licenses. Registration is valid for one year. Registrations done in the year 2024 expired in March 2025. Only 135 animal lovers have registered since April.

Those who do not register their dog and cat will have to pay a fine of five thousand rupees. The Municipal Corporation has issued a helpline number. People can come to the Municipal Corporation and get registered. License can be obtained by depositing registration fees of Rs 200, 500 and 600. Keeping a pet dog and cat in residential colony apartments and other residential areas in the urban area without the permission and license of the Municipal Corporation is going to cost a lot in the coming days. Regarding dog license, teams will be sent to residential colony apartments and neighborhoods for 15 days to check the license of pet dogs and cats in the houses. Last year, 3,350 dogs and cats were registered, and this year, so far, 135 have been registered.

Action will be taken under relevant sections: If the animal keeper is found without a license, action will be taken against him under relevant sections of the Municipal Corporation Act. Keeping in mind the convenience of animal keeper in urban areas, the Municipal Corporation will organize camps and arrange for registration of pet dogs and cats. It is mandatory for animal keeper to register his pet.

Veterinary Welfare Officer Dr. Rajesh Verma, while explaining the benefits of dog and cat registration, said that the license will give the dog keeper the status of “legal owner”, to protect the pet dog from dirt on the open road and other types of diseases like protection from rabies, protection of dog keeper and general public, protection from challan, action, whether the dog has been vaccinated or not, identification of the dog will be easy. There is a provision of a fine of Rs 5000 on the dog owner and confiscation of the dog if the registration is not done.

Keeping in mind the simplicity of the registration system and the convenience of the public, the Municipal Corporation has appealed to the veterinary clinics and dog show organizers to compulsorily register pet dogs and cats with the Municipal Corporation.

Veterinary Welfare Officer Dr. Rajesh Verma said that the registration fee is Rs 600 for foreign big breed, Rs 500 for foreign small breed and Rs 200 for Indian breed pet.
