A new list of the world’s most powerful passports has been revealed. Singapore’s passport has got the first place in this. While America has suffered a setback in this list, there is good news for India.
Washington: Henley, which gives the status of passports of countries around the world, has released its new ranking. India has registered a significant jump in the Henley Passport Index 2025. India has reached 76th position with visa-free access to 58 destinations. India’s passport was earlier ranked 80th in this list. In such a situation, India has jumped four places. Visa-free entry is being given in 58 countries on Indian passport.
While India’s passport has jumped, the status of US passport has declined. The US passport has come down to 10th place jointly with Iceland and Lithuania. This is the lowest ranking of America in two decades. Visa-free mobility of American citizens has decreased. At the same time, the global reach of Indians has increased.
Singapore is at the top
Singapore has the most powerful passport in the world. Globally, Singapore tops the ranking, providing visa-free access to 193 destinations. Japan and South Korea are followed by Japan in second place with 190 destinations. Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain are in third place with 189 destinations.
Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Norway, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Portugal are fourth on the list with 188 destinations. Switzerland, New Zealand and Greece come fifth with 187 destinations.
How the Indian passport improved
Experts say that the improvement in India’s passport is attributed to the expansion of international partnerships, reciprocal visa agreements and active participation in forums such as G20, BRICS, ASEAN. This reflects India’s strong bilateral relations, the country’s strategic importance on the economy and defense cooperation.
Experts believe that the increased strength of India’s passport is a sign that the country is being seen as a responsible and influential player in international affairs. This is benefiting both its citizens and its position in the world.
