The Government of India has set a target of bringing 2,508 cities in 26 states of the country under the purview of the scheme by 2022, the main objective of the Government’s scheme is to build 20 lakh houses by this period and reduce the number of slums by providing houses to the urban poor.

Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the government provides loans by various banks for construction of houses and the Central Government provides subsidy on the rate of interest of the loan payable by the beneficiary. Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban, interest subsidy is provided to beneficiaries ranging from 3% to 6.50%. This interest subsidy will be payable only on purchase of a house for the first time.

How much subsidy will you get in PMAY




Under this scheme, if you can provide a credit linked subsidy of 6.5 per cent on loans up to Rs 6 lakh, people earning up to Rs 12 lakh annually will be able to avail four per cent interest subsidy on loans up to Rs 9 lakh. Similarly, people earning up to Rs 18 lakh annually will be able to avail three per cent interest subsidy on loans up to Rs 12 lakh.
