Public Holidays in 2026: The Maharashtra government has released a list of public holidays for the year 2026. The list includes 24 public holidays for the entire state. In addition, special holidays have also been designated for banks.

Public Holidays in 2026: The Maharashtra government has released a list of public holidays for the year 2026. These holidays have been declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. According to this list, these holidays will be applicable to government offices, institutions, schools, and colleges across the state. The government-issued list includes 24 public holidays for the entire state. In addition, a separate special holiday has also been designated for banks.

Public Holidays in 2026

The year begins with a Republic Day holiday on Monday, January 26, 2026. This will be followed by holidays for Mahashivratri on Sunday, February 15, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on Thursday, February 19. The month of March will see several holidays, including Holi, Gudi Padwa, Ramadan-Eid (Eid al-Fitr), Ram Navami, and Mahavir Jayanti. In April, holidays have been declared for Good Friday on April 3 and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14. In May, Maharashtra Day and Buddha Purnima fall on the same day on May 1, while Bakrid, also known as Eid al-Adha, will be celebrated on May 28.

Independence Day and Festival Holidays

On August 15, 2026, Independence Day and the Parsi New Year will both fall on Saturdays. Monday, September 14, will be a holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi. October will see Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and Dussehra on October 20. November will include two Diwali-related holidays: Diwali Amavasya (Laxmi Pujan) on November 8 and Bali Pratipada on November 10. In addition, Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 24 and Christmas on Friday, December 25 will be holidays.

Separate Holidays for Banks and Government Offices

Banks have been granted a holiday on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, for annual financial closing. This holiday applies only to banks, not government offices. Meanwhile, state governments and local bodies will have an additional holiday on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, for Bhai Dooj.
