Public Holiday: There is good news for employees living and working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On the occasion of the birthday of the last prophet Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam (PBUH), the government has also announced an official holiday on Friday (September 5) for private sector employees. With this decision, most employees will get a three-day long weekend, because after Friday’s holiday, there will also be a regular week off on Saturday and Sunday.

This day falls on 12 Rabi al-Awwal according to the Islamic calendar, which Muslims around the world celebrate with full devotion and respect. Earlier, the UAE government had also announced a holiday on September 5 for government employees. In such a situation, both government and private sector employees will now get the benefit of a long weekend together.

Sharjah employees will not get the benefit

However, this will be a normal weekend for Sharjah government employees, as there is already a holiday on Friday. This holiday was announced when the moon of Rabi al-Awwal was not visible on Saturday (23 August). The UAE Astronomy Center had informed that the month of Safar will be of 30 days and Rabi al-Awwal will start from Monday (25 August). This makes it clear that this year 12 Rabi al-Awwal i.e. Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam’s (PBUH) birthday will fall on 5 September.

Birthday will be on different days in Saudi-UAE

The special thing this time is that the birthday of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam (PBUH) will be celebrated on different days in UAE and Saudi Arabia. This is because the moon appeared a day earlier in Saudi Arabia. Actually, the Islamic calendar is completely based on the position of the moon. The beginning of every month is considered only after the moon is seen. Because of this, many times there is a difference in Islamic dates in different countries.

It is worth noting that the Hijri calendar is recognized in the UAE and the moon sighting committee meets on the 29th of every month. It is decided in this meeting when the new month will start. This time the announcement has brought relief to millions of employees of UAE, because along with the joy of the festival, they will get a chance to spend a long time with family and friends.
